Alan Shearer delivers scathing verdict on Manchester United's players following 4-1 Watford defeat

Alan Shearer has launched a scathing verdict of Manchester United's players' performances versus Watford.

United lost 4-1 away at Watford on Saturday and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been sacked following that latest humiliation.

While Donny van de Beek's goal promised to get United back into the game, Harry Maguire received a red card soon after and Watford put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time when scoring another two goals to seal the win and Solskjaer's fate.

Shearer assessed United's performance on Match of the Day and he slammed the Reds' players for their lack of effort.

"It’s quite clear from their attitude and performance that the players don’t want the manager," Shearer told Match of the Day.

"They’ve stopped running for the manager, they’ve lost respect for the manager. And when you have a player coming out and saying that they didn’t know what to do with the ball, well that does lie at the manager’s feet because that’s no plan, no tactics

"But the players can go out, they can run around and show effort, have attitude and they had none of that.

"That tells you what they think of the manager."
