Alan Shearer delivers his verdict on the Newcastle United takeover as he calls for end to 'limbo'

Alan Shearer has voiced his support for the prospective takeover of Newcastle United as he called for a resolution to the long-running saga.

The Magpies are "in limbo" - Shearer's words - as the Saudi Arabia-backed takeover bid continues to be stuck in the Owners and Directors tests.

The Premier League were expected to deliver their verdict on the bid last week but instead, it is moving into a 12th week with the top flight's lawyers.

Piracy has been one of the biggest sticking points but with the Premier League not commenting and the process considered confidential, there has been an information vacuum.

Now Shearer, the club's record scorer and high-profile critic of Mike Ashley, wants to see a resolution in favour of the consortium.

"Something has to happen one way or the other, either positive news or negative news because Newcastle are in limbo at the moment because they can't plan for next season while they're waiting for an answer. So the sooner the better," he said on Match of the Day.

"Yes, I'd like to see it. The majority of people would like to see it. It's been going on for such a long time, they need an answer."
