Alan Shearer delivers brutal assessment of Chelsea stars amid praise for Everton striker

Chelsea's centre-backs Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen have come in for some stinging criticism after the Blues' defeat against Everton at Goodison Park.

It was an afternoon to forget for the Blues as they lost out 3-1 against the Toffees, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin netting twice for Everton to add to Richarlison's early header.

Mateo Kovacic scored for Chelsea, but it was not enough to get anything out of the game, with the hosts claiming a deserved win.

And BBC pundit Alan Shearer has delivered a brutal verdict on Chelsea's defending in the game, amid praise for Everton's two-goal hero.

Speaking on Match of the Day, the former Newcastle United striker said: “I was hugely impressed with him [Calvert-Lewin] because he absolutely battered the two centre-halves, [Kurt] Zouma and [Andreas] Christensen, he didn’t give them a moment’s peace.

"When you’re a forward, if you can’t win a header, then make sure the defender can’t win it either. He did it all afternoon.

“He uses his body, he uses his strength. The two centre halves didn’t know what day it was and he did it brilliantly. He’s too strong for Christensen, he deserved that, doing his work rate for his team and winning the ball back.

"They couldn’t handle him, they didn’t want to have a fight with him or a scrap with him.

"Big Dunc [Everton's interim boss Duncan Ferguson] would have been proud of that because that’s what he did as a player, he bullied centre-halves, and that’s what Calvert-Lewin did today.”
