Alan Shearer defends Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp amid Jose Mourinho criticism of 'touchline antics'

Jurgen Klopp's touchline antics certainly got under the skin of Jose Mourinho at Anfield - but Alan Shearer has defended the Liverpool manager's behaviour.

Klopp wore his heart on his sleeve as ever in the technical area during Wednesday night's top-of-the-table Premier League clash.

Roberto Firmino's late header gave Liverpool a dramatic 2-1 victory to send the reigning champions clear at the top.

And Mourinho could not hide his frustration at the final whistle, telling Klopp: "The best team lost".

The Spurs chief was also critical of his opposite number's animated nature on the side of the pitch as the action unfolded.

Mourinho claimed that he would have been sent to the stands by the match officials if he had behaved in a similar manner.

“I told him the best team lost. He disagreed. That's his opinion," said Mourinho in his post-match press conference.

"By the way, if I behaved the way on the touchline like he does, I have no chance to stay there - and I'm out."

Mourinho also took aim at Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who clashed with fourth official Anthony Taylor over the amount of stoppage time added on at the end of Tuesday's 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Referring to the incident, Mourinho added: "Do you want me to take the table (electronic board) with the time from the fourth official?

"For some reason I am different. And that's that."

Former England star Shearer, though, does not have a problem with the way Klopp conducted himself and believes it helps the younger players in the Liverpool team, while endearing him to the fans.

“We know what he’s like - he does that week in, week out," Shearer told Amazon Prime Video.

"He’s got a few young boys out there in that team who he can be very proud of and he wants to cheer them on.

"That’s what he’s doing and that’s what he does.

“I like him on the touchline. He gives the energy to the players, the fans love that. They relate to that.

"He’s not going to change.”
