Alan Shearer, Chloe Ferry and Sam Fender among the North East stars to say Merry Christmas to their fans this year

North East favourites like Alan Shearer, Chloe Ferry, Sam Fender and the Hairy Bikers have all sent Christmas wishes to their fans this year.

This Christmas we've seen sports stars getting stuck in to the wrapping paper, glamorous celebs who've done very well indeed with some stellar presents, and socially-conscious personalities using the chance to highlight important causes.

And everyone seems to be having a lovely festive time too, from the pictures and video that these famous names have been sharing.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was among those sharing festive cheer with his fans this Christmas, tweeting: "Merry Christmas everyone. Have a great day."

Perhaps he had a Christmas chuckle at the anti-vax protesters who delivered fake legal papers to the wrong address when they tried to collar him last week...

On Instagram Geordie Shore star Chloe Ferry shared a Merry Christmas with fans - and treated them to shots of French Bulldogs Ivy and Nala dressed as "Santa's little helpers" and opening their own special stockings full of gifts.

The reality TV personality also appeared to have been treated herself this Christmas, sharing a picture of a Prada handbag from boyfriend Johnny Willbo along with the comment: "He did good!"

On Christmas Eve, North Shields ' very own Sam Fender used a Christmas message to highlight a good cause, and remind fans of a Christmas cover song he released last year.

On Instagram he posted: "This time last year we released a cover of Lindisfarne's 'Winter Song', performed it live with a full orchestra at @sage_gateshead, and teamed up with @peopleofthestreets_ to create a lyric video for it.

"This Christmas song is close to my home and my heart and the words are relevant now more than ever. The documentary about Lindsfarne’s legendary songwriter Alan Hull is still available to watch on BBC iPlayer."

People of the Streets is an organisation that works to put "human stories" front and centre in discussion of homelessness.

Last week, Sunderland DJ Lauren Laverne celebrated her last edition of Desert Island Discs before Christmas by sharing a touching festive post on Instagram.

Posting a pic of her wearing a festive hat made by one of her kids, she said she was "so lucky" to have the job she does, and thanked everyone who had been in touch with "gorgeous messages about how our shows have helped people this year".

"Sending love and a Merry Christmas to all, especially those who will find this one difficult. Here’s to a happier and healthier New Year… and this excellent Christmas hat, made by my youngest."

Hairy Bikers Dave Myers and Si King got in on the act too last night, sharing a festive snap of both their families having a Christmassy meal - no doubt it was delicious.

Meanwhile ex-England and Durham cricketer Graham Onions shared an unusual Christmas request from his children with his followers. Quoting one of his kids, the retired fast-bowler said: "Daddy play base hunter’s Christmas song, jingle bells. Dear me. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE."
