Alan Shearer 'certain' about Liverpool signing as Mohamed Salah replacement brought in

Here are your Liverpool headlines on Saturday, June 26.

Carvalho can fill-in for Salah

Liverpool could lose Mohamed Salah on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.

The two sides have been locked in talks to extend his contract but so far terms have not been agreed. Should the attacker leave, it will leave a gaping hole in the first-team line-up but Jurgen Klopp has already secured his long-term replacement in the team, albeit he would have to change position.

Fabio Carvalho will arrive from Fulham on July 1 and the talented youngster can step into the large shoes left by the Egyptian should he leave Anfield in 12 months. Currently deployed as a No10 behind a striker, Carvalho would have to be used out wide to succeed Salah or a change of formation could be in order for life after Salah.

Nunez tipped to shine

Liverpool made a statement signing when they broke their transfer record this summer to acquire Darwin Nunez.

The former Benfica striker was one of the in-demand strikers, alongside Erling Haaland who joined Man City. The pair are expected to battle it out for the top prizes in the Premier League and both clubs will be hoping they find the back of the net on a regular basis. Premier League record-goalscorer Alan Shearer expects both to hit the ground running once the season kicks off.

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the annual Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament, he said: "Two huge signings. Two fantastic players. I'm certain both players will score a lot of goals in the Premier League and will make their clubs better. I've seen bits of them in the Champions League, obviously."
