Alan Shearer celebrates 'three much-needed points' as Newcastle United beat Everton

Alan Shearer has praised Newcastle United for the performance that saw the club end an 11 game winless run.

The Magpies beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park thanks to a brace from Callum Wilson.

That was their first win since December 12th and first victory on the road since November.

As Shearer tweeted, it was a 'massive improvement' from Steve Bruce's side as they moved nine points clear of the drop zone.

"Three much needed points," he wrote.

"A clean sheet and Callum Wilson scoring goals again.

"Massive improvement all over the pitch. "

It was Wilson's first goal for Newcastle since the 1-1 draw with Fulham in the middle of December but with this brace took his Premier League tally to 51 for his career.

The former Bournemouth headed home a Shelvey corner before calmly slotting home at the death to secure the points.
