Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer praised the current day squad for a 'great result' as they beat Leicester City at the King Power.
The Magpies won 1-0 thanks to an Ayoze Perez header midway through the first half, and now sit 10 points above Cardiff City who lie in 18th place.
United could have collected the win in easier fashion with Salomon Rondon hitting the bar with a free-kick and Perez going close to scoring a second only to be denied by Kasper Schmeichel at the near post.
The players headed straight to the away end to applaud the fans who were celebrating the result.
Shearer , who is the club's record goal-scorer, took to social media to join in the celebrations - even tweeting the same song the fans were singing from the terraces.
"Who's that team we call United, Who's that team we all adore, Oh, we play in Black and White.
"Great result Newcastle United.
"Well done lads!"
