Alan Shearer brutally trolls two Manchester United players after Newcastle fixture

Alan Shearer has brutally trolled two Manchester United players amid their meeting with his beloved Newcastle.

After returning to Premier League action following a Covid-19 outbreak, United put in an underwhelming display and were held 1-1 at Newcastle at St James' Park on Monday night.

Fit-again Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani rescued a share of the spoils after Allan Saint-Maximim put Newcastle in front early on.

United were also indebted to David de Gea, as the Spaniard produced a number of important stops.

Recalled to the line-up for the first time since early November due to a hamstring injury, Raphael Varane was one positive for United in terms of the bigger picture, although the World Cup winner and Fred were on the receiving end of some cutting social media activity from Shearer.

The 51-year-old famously scored 206 goals in 405 games for his hometown Magpies between 1996 and 2006.

Responding to a stat which had Fred ranked first in successful passes, ball recoveries and chances created — before he was then replaced at half-time — Shearer said: "Are you sure you were watching the same game as I was?"

As for his verdict on Varane, the Match of the Day pundit responded to a tweet about the Frenchman with a simple, damning 'eyes' emoji.

That came after the same Twitter stats account suggested that returning France defender had recovered well from an early error on his return to first-team action.
