Alan Shearer blasts VAR over disallowed Serge Aurier goal during Leicester vs Tottenham

It's fair to say that Tottenham have had their fair share of luck when it comes to VAR.

Games against Manchester City, in last season's Champions League quarter-final, and this year's Premier League clash, immediately spring to mind.

But on Saturday they were left rueing the new technology in the Premier League.

Leading 1-0 at the King Power Stadium against Leicester, they thought they had gone 2-0 up when Serge Aurier fired home. It would have put the game pretty much to bed, but in Son Heung-min was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up and the goal was chalked off.

Leicester scored soon afterwards and then won it with five minutes to go.

The call to disallow Aurier's goal was down to Son being offside by a matter of a millimetre or two.

Leicester fan Gary Lineker condemned it, despite it working in is team's favour, when saying on Twitter after the game that it was "sucking the life out of football".

And Alan Shearer agreed on Match of the Day.

He said: "That was definitely the turning point of the game.

"I was willing to give it a chance, but when you're taking almost three minutes to get to that decision and we know the technology is not 100%accurate because the frame can't tell us when the ball is leaving the foot and you're talking about a millimetre or two.

"That and the handball law I'm not comfortable with after the first six weeks of the season, because everything is weighted in favour of the defender!

"The defender gets the benefit of the doubt with the handball law and they also et the benefit of the doubt with this, when you're talking millimetres.

"Would it not be an idea to bring the clear and obvious thing into offsides?"
