Alan Shearer awards Sam Fender his number one album in perhaps the most Geordie celebration ever

As if this moment could get any better for Sam Fender.

Not only are you told you have the number one record, but your boyhood hero is here to present you with the news.

Hypersonic Missiles has not only rocketed to the top of the charts, it has broke a record with it.

And Sam received the news from none other than Alan Shearer:

And Newcastle United's record goalscorer also gifted the North Shields singer with a replica NUFC shirt - complete with Fender 1 on the back.

Sam, 23, is seen grinning from ear to ear in the photograph.

The star, who has previously said he wants to sell out St James' Park one day, was clearly on top of the world to meet his football hero at a social club in the region, ahead of a homecoming gig at a secret location on Friday night.

He racked up 41,000 chart sales to take the top spot, 8,200 of which was on vinyl, making it the fastest-selling vinyl album of 2019.

Speaking to officialcharts.com Sam said: “This is beyond dream territory.

"I thought my dreams were complete when I played Jools Holland, never mind this madness.

"Thanks to all the fans. This is just the start."
