Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand make Harry Kane prediction after Euro 2020 win over Germany

It may have taken him four games to get going, but Harry Kane finally made his mark at Euro 2020 after scoring England’s second goal in their 2-0 win over Germany at Wembley.

Although he was quiet for most of the game - especially after an injury scare when he bumped knees with German defender Mats Hummels early on in the second-half - the Tottenham striker picked himself up and later headed home substitute Jack Grealish’s cross with just four minutes remaining to send the home fans into a frenzy.

The goal most likely serves as a bit of a relief, but it’s also a huge confidence booster going into England’s quarter-final clash with Ukraine on Saturday in Rome.

And now that he is off the mark, former Euro 96 favourite, Alan Shearer, thinks that it’ll help him to improve in the latter stages of the tournament.

“We’ve been waiting for Harry [Kane] to ignite and that might just start his tournament off,” said Shearer, whilst speaking on the BBC after the game. “He found it tough, his movement wasn’t great but that’s what starts you off.”

Kane missed a good opportunity in the first-half, but Shearer believes he didn’t let that miss faze him and the goal might just be what he needs to make an even bigger impact in England’s next game.

“He had the opportunity in the first-half, he didn’t [score] but you keep on going, that is just what might get him going now,” he added.

Co-pundit and former Manchester United centre-back, Rio Ferdinand, agreed with Shearer, as he simply said: “He needed this, a big goal.”

Now that a big test is behind them, and because their side of the draw is looking more favourable, England will be confident of going all the way this time around, and captain Kane will want to play a major part in doing just that.
