Alan Shearer and Ian Wright question Jose Mourinho over pointed Tottenham comments

Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have been discussing those pointed Jose Mourinho quotes following Tottenham's draw with Newcastle United.

Spurs took a 2-1 lead over relegation-threatened Newcastle at St James' Park thanks to a Harry Kane double after Joelinton had put the home side ahead.

But an equaliser from Arsenal loanee Joe Willock with five minutes remaining saw Spurs leave with just a point, Mourinho's men spurning a chance to move level on points with Chelsea in fourth.

And after the game Mourinho gave a pointed response to questions, saying: "Same coach, different players" and those comments were spoken about on Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night.

Ian Wright questioned: "It was an excellent question from Juliette Ferrington because what is it? If you’re saying it’s the same coach, different players, then are you saying that you, as a coach, are good enough but your players aren’t good enough to understand what you’re doing?"It was an excellent question and it would have been interesting for him to answer it as he’s just left it open. How are you feeling if you’re in the dressing room?"

Answering Wright's question, Alan Shearer added: "It’s criticism of his players, he’s basically saying that he’s a good enough coach but his players aren’t good enough.

"That’s why he’s made so many changes in the backline as he’s still searching and trying for a formula.

"We said before the game that the back four was get-at-able and Newcastle should create chances against that, which they did."

Tottenham are now two points behind Chelsea in fourth after the Blues lost to West Brom on Saturday, while Liverpool are just goal difference beind Mourinho's men with eight games remaining.
