Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy's major claim about Spurs players following Brighton defeat

BBC pundits Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy have claimed that some of Spurs' problems this season are down to the players going 'stale' at the club.

Mauricio Pochettino's men suffered their third Premier League defeat in eight games on Saturday, losing 3-0 against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. An early goal from Neal Maupay was added to by Aaron Connolly who scored a brace on his full Premier League debut to compound what has been a miserable week for Spurs.

The defeat followed a 7-2 loss against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and means that Tottenham have won just one of their last six games in all competitions.

The form has led to questions being asked around Pochettino's future at the club, but both Shearer and Murphy have stated that it may be the lack of fresh faces over recent years that has resulted in the poor form.

“Eight players from five and a half years ago are still at Tottenham," Shearer said on Match of the Day folllowing the defeat.

"Seven of them played today, that shows some of them have gone stale.”

Fellow Pundit Murphy also claimed that transfer speculation around players' future could also be a factor, adding:

“I think some of them have had their heads turned. They don’t want to be there."

Spurs will now have the international break to dust themselves down, before they face bottom of the table Watford when they return to league action on 19th October.
