Alan Shearer has urged Arsenal to tie down Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a new long-term contract.
Aubameyang netted his 50th Premier League goal for the Gunners in their 4-0 win over Norwich on Wednesday night.
The forward is also Arsenal’s top goal-scorer this season with 19 Premier League goals and scored an additional 22 league goals last season.
But the forward only has one year left on his Gunners contract and both Barcelona and Inter Milan have been linked with the services of the Gabon international.
However, Aubameyang recently 'liked' a tweet shared on football.london's Arsenal account, which posted a video of Mikel Arteta saying how much he and the club would like to keep hold of the striker.
"Hopefully he will be here for a long time," the Gunners boss told BBC Sport.
"Every time I speak with him he is really happy where he is, he is very settled and his family are happy."
And Shearer believes it is vital the Gunners tie Aubameyang down on a new deal.
“He’s a fantastic player and he’ll be key to what Arteta is trying to do at Arsenal,” he told Thursday’s Match of the Day.
“It’s imperative they keep him there. I know he’s got a year left on his contract but they want to and need to tie him down to a long contract.”
