Alan Shearer advises Joelinton how he can become a great Newcastle United striker

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has issued Joelinton and other Premier League strikers advice on how they can follow in his footsteps by becoming a great striker.

The Magpies hero still stands as the highest-scoring Premier League player of all time with a monstrous tally of 260, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane having the best chance of dethroning him but still a long way off, currently sitting on 136.

Without a doubt the king of Premier League goalscorers, Shearer has now issued advice to his successors on how they can be considered in the bracket of greats.

While not directly addressing Joelinton, Newcastle's record signing should certainly take note if he wants to become a star on Tyneside in the coming seasons.

“It’s a drug. In terms of, when you get that feeling of seeing the ball hit the back of the net and seeing the crowd, you want to do it again and again and again," he told BBC's Match of the Day Top 10 podcast.

"I would say it’s 50% ability and 50% that. That’s what makes the difference, you’ve got someone with great ability but have they got the attitude, the work ethic, to make yourself get up there.

“In a way, you have to be selfish. When you find yourself in that position, there’s a 60-40 chance you might not score, but you’ve still got the confidence and the ability to say ‘I will score’.”
