Alan Shearer admits Newcastle United 'deserved' to lose as he picks out player who contributed to their downfall

Alan Shearer felt Newcastle United "deserved" to lose at Chelsea - as he picked out the Blues player who tormented the Magpies.

Newcastle were beaten at Stamford Bridge in a one-sided contest , with Chelsea picking up the pace after the break.

Steve Bruce's side were well-organised and created some openings in the first period but it was one way traffic in the second period and Match of the Day's analysis reflected that fact - with Shearer concentrating on the Blues.

He picked out Callum Hudson-Odoi as the player who contributed most to Newcastle's downfall, as he admitted United "deserved" to be beaten.

“He (Hudson-Odoi) has played three times this season and he has three assists. He had such a terrible injury. He can spray the ball around and he is full of confidence.

“He can go on the outside and come on the inside.

“Everything Chelsea did well he was at the heart of it. He did his best defensively as well. He was hugging the touchline.

“He makes it very difficult for defenders.

“He set up the winning goal and put it into Alonso’s path. Chelsea were the better team and deserved to score.

“What a week it has been for him (CHO). Two for the under-21s as well. He is a talent.”
