There was a huge outpouring of shock and upset when it was revealed last week that Alan Robson's legendary Night Owls show will soon come to an end.
The Flashing Blade himself revealed on air last week that his long-running late night talk show will finish on June 27, after decades of having listeners of all ages tuning in.
He said: "On a personal note, I'm gutted beyond words, and this is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, having built Night Owls and the radio station."
He added: "I've had an incredible career on Metro and I’m grateful to both them, and you the listeners, for sticking by me for so long."
Chronicle readers were quick to express their sadness at Night Owls finishing, with one saying ""I was absolutely gutted to find out the show is going to end. Alan is like a North East saviour, he's part of the North East, like Kevin Keegan.
"He can go from being so funny to being like a counsellor for some people. He is like a father, a big brother, a friend. He's real."

Metro Radio's Cash for Kids have produced a limited-edition commemorative 'get to those phones' Night Owls t-shirt which you can purchase for £17.50 .

At Alan's wish all proceeds from sales of the t-shirts will go towards helping disabled and disadvantaged children across the North East.
