Alan Reynolds appointed assistant manager at Shelbourne

Shelbourne have appointed Alan Reynolds as their new assistant manager.

The former Waterford boss was No 2 at Dundalk last season but left shortly after Vinny Perth’s removal in August.

He is currently assistant to Ireland Under-21 manager Jim Crawford and will remain in that post while working with the Reds.

Reynolds will assist Ian Morris’ promotion push in 2021 after Shels lost the recent promotion-relegation playoff to Longford Town

“Rennie’s knowledge and experience is fantastic and we’ve been working tirelessly over the past couple of days planning for next season,” said Morris.

As a player, Reynolds won the 2006 league title with Shels and he said of his new role: “I’ll be going in to see how I can improve the players.

“Through the conversations we’ve had, myself and Ian both want the same thing - we want to play the right way and excite the fans.

“I’m here to help him and when I’ve had assistants myself, I’ve known what I’ve wanted from them so I’ll be bringing that to the table.”

Reynolds added: “Shelbourne has had tough times over the years and it’s a setback this year but we’ve bounced back before and I’ve no doubt we’ll do it again.”

Former goalkeeper Craig Sexton was Morris’ assistant this season but - according to Shels - is focusing on his role within the FAI’s coach education department.
