Alan Reynolds appointed assistant manager at Dundalk after stepping down as Waterford boss

Dundalk have appointed Alan Reynolds as their assistant manager.

He makes the switch to Oriel Park having stepped down as Waterford boss last week after three seasons in charge.

Reynolds succeeds Ruaidhri Higgins who departed the champions to join Stephen Kenny’s backroom team with Ireland.

He will work alongside head coach Vinny Perth and first-team coach John Gill.

“Dundalk is a fantastic club and I’ll be working with a fantastic group of players so it would have been hard to turn down,” said Reynolds.

“Vinny and Dundalk went about things the right way. They asked Waterford for permission to speak to me and that was granted by the club.

“We’ve spoken a few times over the past couple of weeks and I’m just happy it’s done now.”

Reynolds, 46, could yet double job as he is still linked with a coaching role on Jim Crawford’s Ireland Under-21s team.

But of his new Dundalk role, ‘Rennie’ continued: “I need to adapt to becoming an assistant again but I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.”

Reynolds was a team-mate of Perth’s at Longford Town and while he had two stints in charge of Waterford, he was also assistant at Derry City, St Pat’s and Cork City.
