Alan Hutton eyes Rangers transfer freebie as he pinpoints Liverpool star to target

Alan Hutton wants Rangers to make a move for Nathaniel Clyne in the next transfer window.

He believes snapping up the out of contract Liverpool right-back on a free transfer would be "massive" for boss Steven Gerrard.

Clyne has struggled with injury in recent seasons and looks unlikely to revive his career at Anfield.

The England international would have to agree to a hefty pay cut before any Rangers move became possible but Hutton insists he's worth pursuing.

“Massive, we’re talking about an international player," the former Ibrox star told Football Insider. "Yes, he’s had his ups and downs, his problems within his career but he’s still pretty young.

“We know how good he can be, he was a regular for Liverpool for a long time. His qualities are there for all to see.

“Getting a player like that shows the direction Rangers are wanting to go – a top-quality player would add so much talent to the squad already.

"It would be a big test for James Tavernier if he was to come in.

“It would be a great fight – two top-quality players fighting for the jersey.”
