Alan Hardy must sell up for the good of Notts County

Notts County are still under the ownership of Alan Hardy as talks over a takeover by a South African group continue.

I'm concerned as a former Magpies player that the takeover is dragging on. Fans will be worried, but it's not a case of flicking a switch.

It's a complicated matter. You have to look into every detail of the club before a deal goes through.

You just hope it's sorted as if the club isn't taken over, it's going to be a long road back to the Football League.

I don't think Alan Hardy can stay in charge. He's said it was a mistake to buy the club.

Once that's out there it's difficult to stay on. They need a clean break and for someone else to take the club forwards.

The question of who is the manager would be for the owners to decide.

They might want a fresh start away from Neal Ardley. It's a big decision that you have to get right either way.

Signing players to get out them out of the National League is going to be tough. You need players who are good enough to play in League Two realistically.

Players of that calibre are going to get offers from Football League teams and they're going to take those offers.

That means you've got to be very careful with your scouting and if the club's future isn't resolved very soon they're going to be behind their rivals for promotion.
