Alan Hardy has "accepted an offer" to sell Notts County.
The Magpies owner provided an update on the sale of the Meadow Lane club in a statement on Thursday.
"I am pleased to confirm I have accepted an offer to purchase Notts County Football Club from a very credible party, who is now undertaking due diligence," said Hardy.
"As expected, there has been a huge level of interest in the club and I am delighted that we are now at an advanced stage with people who I am confident have Notts County’s best interests at heart.
"They must be given the time and privacy to carry out their checks properly but, as soon as I can reveal more, I will provide a further update.
"I would also like to assure staff and supporters that, in light of recent conjecture, the money for April’s wages has already been transferred to the bank for payment.

"As for the debt owed to HMRC, I am expecting this to be paid in full by early May with the approval of the High Court next Wednesday.
"I hope these updates will be reassuring to everyone connected with the club, whose concerns are understandable during this time of change.
"While the takeover gathers pace, I was also thrilled to witness a magnificent performance from the team at Stevenage last weekend.
"It’s been a tough time for Neal Ardley and the players, with recent results failing to reflect the level of dominance we’ve had in matches, but we certainly banished a few demons with an emphatic, clinical and very encouraging 3-0 win.
"We are of course very keen to produce a performance of that nature on home soil to further reassure supporters that our battle against the drop is far from over.
"Hopefully that comes on Saturday but, let’s face it, we’d all take a scrappy 1-0!
"Thanks again for your amazing, loyal support, which was especially evident at Stevenage where our fans cheered loud and proud from the first minute to the last."
