Alan Hardy emails his former employees with offer to set up 'new Paragon'

Notts County boss Alan Hardy claims he has been approached to launch a new venture which will "recreate the brilliantly successful Paragon of old".

The businessman emailed former staff members of fit-out firm Paragon Interiors informing them of the update just weeks after they were all made redundant, offering them employment should the opportunity move forward.

While Mr Hardy has not offered more details on the venture in the email, which has been seen by Nottinghamshire Live, he said it "could be something special".

He also acknowledged there would be anger towards him from many employees and confirmed there are no current buyers for the firm.

The email, sent on Tuesday, March 26, with the subject 'New Paragon', said: "I believe I’m talking to a limited few here as some have moved on, some despise me, some blame only me and some want a different career.

"But if you feel energised for a new challenge and have the appetite and hunger for a brand new venture, then send me your expression of interest.

"You must be clear of bitterness and relishing the opportunity to drive forward with passion and determination. I am giving a presentation at 10am with an outline business plan.

"It could be something special. I will also be telling them that I’ve reached out to you first before going to the open market, it’s the very least that I can do.

"To all those who don’t respond, I wish you nothing but success and best wishes ahead."

Paragon, which was based at Nottingham Business Park near Strelley, went into administration at the end of February after a leaked email showed staff had not been paid their wages.

Business recovery group Leonard Curtis was brought in to try and sell the firm but a deal for the company fell through on March 12 and all members of staff were made redundant.

In a statement to Nottinghamshire Live, Mr Hardy confirmed he had contacted his former employees and that he had received a "positive response".

He said: "I wrote to the Paragon employees this week in a bid to update them directly in a spirit of openness, having had few opportunities to do so since the business was forced to make redundancies and following further speculation in the media.

"I also wanted to let them know that there is a potential opportunity on the horizon and that if it works out, they would be the first people I would want to be able to extend it to as I rate them all hugely as talented employees and fantastic people.

"In the email I acknowledged that not everyone would want to hear from me as this has doubtless been an incredibly difficult and hugely stressful time for them all.  I was actually overwhelmed by the number of positive replies I received to my email, with over 30 coming back to me.

"To date I have not personally received any negative feedback but as I said in my message to them all I wish them nothing but the best and success. I hope in time that I can play a part in that once again, hence my very heartfelt and honest email to them all."

Throughout the administration process, a buyer has also been sought for Notts County, which is currently ongoing. The club has been issued with a winding up petition for an unpaid tax bill of £200,000, but officials say they hope to resolve this prior to a high court date of April 10.

In the latest development, Mr Hardy told Nottinghamshire Live John Disley, a businessman dubbed "King of Marbella" is Businessman dubbed 'King of Marbella' NOT in running to buy Notts County.

Mr Disley, who was linked with investing in Blackpool last year, had been rumoured to be one of the parties looking to take over at Meadow Lane.
