Alan Forrest targeted by Dundee as Dark Blues battle Livingston and Partick Thistle for Ayr winger

Dundee have joined Livingston and Partick Thistle in the fight to land Ayr United winger Alan Forrest.

The 23-year-old is out-of-contract with the Honest Men in the summer and can hold pre-contract talks.

Livi have offered him a crack at the Premiership, where he could end up facing his brother, James Forrest, at Celtic.

Dundee and Thistle, however, have offered him lucrative deals to remain in the Championship, although they will both be hoping to push for the play-offs to get into the top-flight.

Dundee boss James McPake confirmed: “Alan Forrest at Ayr will have a load of options but he is definitely a player I like.”

McPake also confirmed Hearts have priced Craig Wighton out on a return to Dundee.

The Dark Blues had asked the question about taking him back to Dens Park on loan but they are looking for his full wages to be covered.

McPake admitted he was keen to land his former team mate who has been frozen out at Tynecastle but they couldn’t meet Hearts’ demands.

He confirmed: “We have been priced out of making a move for Craig Wighton.

“Hearts' demands were too high for us.”

Ayr and East Fife are amongst the other clubs interested in Wighton and they couldn’t even match the contribution Dundee offered for the frontman.

Dundee are also actively trying to land midfielder Ross Callachan from St Johnstone. Midfielder Graham Dorrans was still at Dundee yesterday and looks set to remain at Dens Park despite interest from MK Dons.

The Dark Blues have also confirmed that Josh McPake has returned to Rangers at the conclusion of his loan deal.
