Alan Carr 'lucky to be alive' after drunk skinny-dipping with sharks in Hawaii

Alan Carr is “lucky to be alive” after a drunken skinny-dip in shark-infested waters.

The Interior Design Masters star said he stripped off for a swim in Hawaii, explaining: “This was back when I was drinking a lot. I went to Maui and I ended up skinny-dipping.

“Of course, I tell the waitress over breakfast, ‘Guess what I did last night? I skinny-dipped!’

“Her face went white. She went, ‘What? In that bay? There are so many tiger sharks down there.’

“I’m so lucky to be alive.”

Comedian Alan has steered away from alcohol since 2018, in support of teetotal husband Paul Drayton. But Maui’s waters can be deadly. In December, a surfer died after being bitten by a tiger shark in Honolua Bay.

Local advice is to steer clear of the waters at night, when the shark’s razor-sharp hunting senses remain intact but humans can’t see the danger.

Alan, 44, insists the incident hasn’t put him off Maui.

Chatting to musician Rufus Wainwright on an episode of his Life’s A Beach podcast, out today, he adds: “I love it there.

“The Hana Highway is just this winding road that goes through all these lush tropical landscapes and there’s waterfalls and everything, we love it.”

Just don’t go swimming with the sharks – naked, or otherwise.
