Alan Carr addresses claims he's 'playing a role' on Celebrity Traitors amid fan doubts over giggly demeanour

Alan Carr has addressed claims he’s not being “real” on Celebrity Traitors.

The comedian, 49, is one of two Traitors left in the hit BBC reality show alongside singer Cat Burns, 25, and will face off against the Faithfuls in Thursday’s final.

The Chatty Man star has become a become a social media sensation thanks to his scathing one-liners and giggly demeanour in the Scottish Highlands castle.

However, Carr has faced speculation that he’s “playing a role” on the show.

“I think me and the entire nation didn’t believe I would get through the first roundtable let alone be in the final five,” he told the BBC while discussing his appearance in final.

“Someone sent me a clip of a psychologist on a local radio station saying I wouldn’t do well on the show because I’m playing a role and I’m not the ‘real’ Alan Carr.”

Carr hit back: “That’s quite a statement considering I’ve never met this lady. It seems everyone has an opinion!”

The Interior Design Masters host added that he’s been reading through the fan theories out there, calling them “quite bizarre” but “interesting to read”.

“I guess when you have such huge ratings this analysis of your every move comes with the territory,” he conceded.

“I’ve been bathing in the love, it really has put a spring in my step, and I am loving the constant flow of memes that pop up on my feed.”

Traitors fans previously expressed doubt over how far Carr would get in the competition due to his giggly personality.

He started laughing uncontrollably and sweating after he was picked by host Claudia Winkleman to be one of the Traitors in the launch episode’s blindfold ceremony - a habit viewers feared would give the game away.

“Alan Carr is gonna be the worst Traitor ever, so obvious,” one wrote on X, while another joked: “Alan Carr is somehow going to vote himself as a Traitor at the roundtable.”

A third added: “Alan Carr having to bite his lip to stop laughing immediately — he has no hope whatsoever.”

Fans are preparing for the hotly-tipped final later this week, which will see Carr and Burns face off against Faithfuls Joe Marler, Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga.

Carr admitted he fled to the US ahead of the final to get away from the mounting scrutiny surrounding the show.

He joked that he was the “most hated man in the UK” as he jetted to Universal Studios in Florida with his nephew and niece this week.

“I'm the most hated man in the UK, I've had to come here to Orlando to get away from it. Everyone hates me!” he told Heart FM’s Olly Murs and Mark Wright.

“I just needed to get away because it's stressful murdering every day. My Christmas card list is getting smaller and smaller.”

He then joked that he would wear a Traitors style cloak and carry the infamous lantern while riding the water slide at Universal’s Volcano Bay.

The TV star pretended to be the public slamming him for wearing a Traitors costume at the theme park, saying: “‘Oh Alan, have a day off! We get it, you’re a Traitor! Even on his downtime...’”

Carr later shared several photos of him at Universal Studios on Instagram, which showed him wearing a comical disguise comprising of a sandy-grey wig and a fake grey moustache.

He revealed in the caption that he will be back in the UK in time for the Traitors final.

“Well I needed that!!! Fun! Fun! Fun! With the family!!!” the comic wrote. “Back in time for The Traitors final on Thursday!!!”
