Alan Burrows insists next Aberdeen manager must be comfortable wearing 'heavy jacket' as he prepares to lead boss search

Incoming Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows insists the next man in the dugout must be able to wear a “heavy jacket.”

The former Motherwell chief announced he was stepping down from his role at Fir Park in January. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that he’d be making the move to the north east to take the reins at Aberdeen, working alongside chairman Dave Cormack. Burrows will also take part in the recruitment process to hire a new manager after Jim Goodwin was sacked on January 29 following a 6-0 battering by Hibs.

Barry Robson remains in interim charge and will be calling the shots for this weekend’s Premiership clash at home to Livingston. The search continues for Goodwin’s permanent successor, and after getting a glimpse of what his new employers are all about, Burrows believes the successful candidate must be comfortable dealing with the expectation placed on his shoulders.

“It’s only become clear to me after I got under the bonnet slightly in negotiations with Dave [Cormack] and other board members,” Burrows told PLZ. “Aberdeen are a big club and it’s not until you get under the bonnet that you realise how big a club it is.

“In terms of the structure behind it, what they have in place, the people that they have and the resources that they have. It’s a big club. So therefore, the person who does the job of Aberdeen manager, in my eyes, has to be someone who can wear that heavy jacket.”
