Alan Burrows appointed Aberdeen chief executive as Motherwell CEO lands major Pittodrie job

Motherwell CEO Alan Burrows has been appointed as chief executive at Aberdeen.

Burrows announced his intention to leave Motherwell last month after 15 years of service, nine of which as CEO which made him the longest serving in that position in the Scottish Premiership He helped the club enjoy record turnover during his reign and secure millions in transfer fees with the sales of David Turnbull to Celtic for £3.25m and James Scott to Hull for £1.75m.

But he now heads to Premiership rivals Aberdeen and will take up his new position on February 27. Dons’ chairman Dave Cormack said: “Alan has all the experience and qualities you’d look for in a chief executive. He’s got his finger firmly on the pulse of the Scottish game, is well-respected in footballing circles and is fully aligned with the strategy and vision we have to drive Aberdeen FC forward.

“In taking over as chairman, the intention was always to appoint a chief executive. However, within three months, the COVID pandemic hit and I felt the need to lead the Club through the significant financial challenges that presented. It was also critical that we were patient and found the right individual who knows and understands both football and business.”
