Alan Browne has been ruled out the Republic Ireland’s UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers with Denmark and Gibraltar.
The 24-year-old picked up a calf injury in training and will begin his recovery programme in Ireland's camp in Portugal before flying home with the rest of squad on Tuesday.
Irish boss Mick McCarthy said: “Alan has been very unlucky with injuries this season.
“An ankle injury kept him out of the two games in March and now this calf problem has ruled him out of the matches against Gibraltar and Denmark.”
McCarthy also confirmed that he has no plans to add further players to his squad.
But it is a blow to the Boys in Green as Corkman Browne has had an excellent season for Preston North End and was pushing for a starting place in McCarthy's midfield for the upcoming qualifiers.
