Alan Brazil reveals major talkSPORT shake-up as long-time radio regular announces his 'semi-retirement'

Pundit Alan Brazil has revealed he is heading into "semi-retirement" and will only host his long-running talkSPORT breakfast show two days a week moving forward.

The former Ipswich and Tottenham striker has been a mainstay with the broadcaster since it launched in 2000 with his show one of the station's biggest hits

Brazil is joined by big-name pundits on a daily basis with Rangers legend Ally McCoist a regular sparring partner on Thursdays and Fridays.

But the 60-year-old Celtic supporter admits he will now get the chance to hit the snooze button in the morning.

Brazil, speaking to the Sunday Post, said: "After 20 years of early-morning starts, Monday to Friday, that's me entering into semi-retirement with talkSPORT.

"From this week, I'll only be assaulting the airwaves on Thursdays and Fridays.

"But I'll still be hurting your eardrums in the build-up to the weekend football action - whenever it restarts - and around even more when the big events come along."

It is yet to be announced who will replace Brazil but Sky Sports presenter Laura Woods has been a regular replacement in recent years and she is the frontrunner to take over.

To keep with tradition, Brazil did not show up on Friday and called in sick with a bad back with Woods stepping in at the last minute to co-present.

Regular stand-in Max Rushden will host from Monday to Wednesday this week while the finer details are ironed out for Woods to take over on a more permanent basis.
