Aladdin: Will Smith sings his version of Friend Like Me

Aladdin has had a bumpy road on the way to the cinema, but Will Smith and the cast have slowly brought fans on board.

Fans were initially unsure about Will Smith's blue Genie, but new photos and a trailer seem to have got most people excited for the latest Disney remake.

Now Will Smith has previewed his version of Aladdin 's Friend Like Me, the song Robin Williams sang in the 1992 original animation,

"Robin Williams smashed that role," Smith told Jimmy Fallon on Monday night.

He added that he hadn't really wanted to touch the role at first. "Hell no," he said when first asked.

So what was it that convinced him? Smith played around with Friend Like Me.

Smith had the team run the drum beat of The Honey Drippers' 1973 track "Impeach The President" on top and liked what he heard.

The star gave Fallon a little listen and the audience seemed to like it.

While we're huge fans of the original Disney, Smith's version actually sounds pretty good.

Aladdin is released in cinemas on May 24.
