Alabama (1-0) vs. New Mexico State (0-1) Game Preview
Why Alabama Will Win
New Mexico State struggled to score against Washington State …
Uh oh. Alabama held Duke to 204 yards of total offense and only allowed a field goal.
To be fair, the Cougar defense really is good, but the Aggie running game was only able to come up with two decent runs and had a slew of issues with turnovers. The Aggies didn’t force any takeaways and gave it up three times.
NMSU isn’t going to win, but mistakes are going to be the difference between this being brutal, and going nuclear.
Wazzu is Wazzu, and it’s going to throw and throw some more, but the Aggie secondary didn’t have a prayer against the Cougar passing game that cranked up over 500 yards. Mr. Tagovailoa hit 26-of-31 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns last week – the Aggie secondary doesn’t have a prayer.
Why New Mexico State Will Win
The only hope of the Aggies keeping this from being a total bloodbath is if Bama wants to rest up and get ready for South Carolina.
Nick Saban and Bama get the job done in overmatch games like this, and then they usually just stop. Last year’s dominant force has it down to a science.
Get up, sit Tua, get the backups in. Before that happens, QB Josh Adkins and the Aggie passing game have to keep the pressure on the Bama secondary by throwing and throwing some more. They’re not going to stop pushing the ball down the field for a full four quarters, even though the Tide stars are on the sidelines.

What’s Going To Happen
Tagovailoa will get the ball to his NFL receivers on short passes, and they’re going to take them a long, long way.
Bama will be up 40 in the half, and then the machine will turn off.
Even with all of the ugly blowouts, Bama has won by more than 55 points just four times in the Nick Saban era. They dropped Mercer 56-0 and whacked Ole Miss 66-3 two years ago, and they hit Texas A&M 59-0 in 2014. That’s it since beating Georgia State 63-7 in 2010.
It’ll be an easy layup win, but all it takes is one New Mexico State score to likely cover this. Bama has scored more than 55 ten times under Saban, and it’ll do it this week, but …
