Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa leaves game with apparent ankle injury

Alabama superstar quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered lower body injuries midway through the 2018 season that affected the Crimson Tide’s run to the national championship game and may have cost him the Heisman Trophy. After Tagovailoa left Saturday night’s SEC matchup against Tennessee with another ankle issue, Alabama fans are hoping history isn’t repeating itself.

Tagovailoa injured his right ankle while being sacked in the second quarter. He remained in the game for another play, but then exited to the Crimson Tide’s medical tent, and eventually made his way to the locker room.

Tagovailoa was replaced by redshirt sophomore quarterback Mac Jones, who has appeared in five of Alabama’s blowout wins this season. Alabama has ruled Tagovailoa out for the rest of the game.

Tagovailoa injured his left ankle in the 2018 SEC Championship game against Georgia, and underwent a “tightrope procedure” in the hopes of returning for the College Football Playoff semifinal. Tagovailoa was able to recover in time for the game, and led the Crimson Tide to a 45-34 win over Kyler Murray and Oklahoma.
