Alabama prosecutors on Wednesday dropped a controversial manslaughter charge against a woman who lost her pregnancy when she was shot in the belly following a fight.
The dropped charge against Marshae Jones followed a storm of public outcry after a grand jury indictment against the Alabama woman, who was accused of starting a fight that ended in the shooting.
"We are pleased with the District Attorney's decision to dismiss charges against Marshae Jones," her lawyer said in a statement. "The District Attorney's decision will help Marshae continue to heal from this tragic event and work to rebuild her life in a positive and productive way."
