Al Horford on flagrant foul: ‘Blake [Griffin] is a great actor’

Wednesday night’s matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Detroit Pistons nearly featured a whistle a minute with their being 40 fouls called between the two sides, 22 going against the Celtics in their 118-110 win.

Among those was a flagrant foul call against Al Horford at 3:36 in the fourth quarter, with Boston up 108-92.

Andre Drummond tried to hit Blake Griffin at halfcourt to start the break, but Horford saw it coming. Boston’s big man made a hard attempt at the ball but collided with Griffin and was blown for the whistle. It was the right call with Griffin being the offensive player in this instance.

However, Griffin then remained on the ground for an extra 10 seconds, leading to a discussion between the referees, followed by a review. Horford was then handed a flagrant foul, which he wasn’t too pleased about.

Horford was asked about it after the game and responded with an eye-roll.

“Blake (Griffin) is a great actor,” Horford told reporters. “He’s a great actor. I was going for the ball and he sold it well. Yeah, I don’t think it was a flagrant foul.”

Griffin did spend a deal of time in Los Angeles, and he has been in his share of commercials. Maybe Horford was actually complimenting him.
