Al Horford finishes third-place in voting for 2019 Sportsmanship Award

Considered one of the best teammates in the league and an all-around nice guy, Boston Celtics impending free agent Al Horford finished third-place in voting for the 2019 Sportsmanship Award. An award ultimately won by Utah Jazz guard Mike Conley Jr., who also brought home the Twyman/Stokes Award on Monday night, Horford received 47 first place votes (the fifth-highest total) and 2,236 total points.

According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of sportsmanship is “conduct (such as fairness, respect for one’s opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing) becoming to one participating in a sport.”

Grace and class, in defeat or victory, characterizes Horford.

Always respectful of the opponents that he’ll face, he would have been a deserving recipient of the award had Conley not received the award for the third time in his career.
