Al Harrington: On ‘We Believe’ team, ‘we could get away with murder’

Before Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green came along firing up three-pointers at a hectic pace and winning championships, the Golden State Warriors had an equally entertaining team dubbed the “We Believe” Warriors.

The 2006-07 version of the Warriors were led by Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, and Al Harrington and they led the franchise to their first playoff appearance since 1994. They were an 8 seed facing off against the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks and league MVP Dirk Nowitzki. Golden State then proceeded to upset the Mavericks before falling to the Utah Jazz in the semifinals.

Harrington recently joined Alex Kennedy on the Hoops Hype podcast and opened up on what that 2007 playoff run with the fan support was like.

The fan base is amazing. It was like a college town there. The support was immense. That “we belive” year when we won that playoff series, I promise you one of us could have committed a murder and gotten away with it. That’s how much they was supporting us and it was a beautiful thing to be a part of. I’ll never forget that time.

Harrington spent 2.5 seasons with the Warriors before being dealt to the New York Knicks, but that postseason run in 2007 was a time nobody in The Bay will ever forget.
