Egypt's Al-Azhar has said that targeting people in places of worship are terrorist acts that are rejected by all religions.
Al-Azhar condemned a bombing at a mosque in the Afghan capital Kabul during Friday prayers which killed at least three people, including a senior preacher, and left several worshipers injured.
“Terrorism has no religion and no nation. It seeks to create instability in countries,” said the religious institution.
“Targeting places of worship and killing innocent people are terrorist acts that violate the teachings of Islam and all religions that call for peace, respect, and the protection of the places of worship,” said the statement.
Also Friday, Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam denounced a terrorist attack at a mosque in the Pakistani city of Quetta. The bombing killed two people, including the prayer leader, and wounded 28 worshipers, officials said.
Allam stressed that Islam rejects all forms of terrorist attacks mainly in places of worship. Such attacks violate the teachings of religions, he said.
