Al-Ahly director of football slams agent of Mohamed Magdy after touting Celtic target for move

Al-Ahly director of football Sayed Abdel Hafeez has hit out at the agent of reported Celtic target Mohamed Magdy after touting the Egyptian international for a move to Parkhead.

The 24-year-old joined the African Champions League finalists from Pyramids FC and scored five times in the league as the Cairo club lifted their 42nd domestic title.

But agent Abdelrahman Ismail insisted Celtic were "very interested" in signing his client, according to the Daily Record, with a view to loaning him out to another European club.

That plan looks to have been foiled by Al-Ahly's head of transfers however, after he slammed Ismail for suggesting his client was available in the run-up to the showpiece occasion later this month.

Al-Ahly will face Egyptian rivals Zamalek or Moroccan representatives Raja Casablanca at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on November 27.

Magdy, known as Afsha in his homeland, is expected to play in that fixture and the Cairo outfit hope to have him tied down for longer.

Hafeez, said: "Firstly, there has been no offer for Mohamed from Celtic or anyone else.

"And secondly, this is not the time to talk about transfers. All our focus is on the Champions League Final and this kind of needless talk is distracting for both the player and the club.

"We accept there will be interest and eventual offers for him and that's a tribute to his success this season.

"But at this moment, there are no offers and Mohamed is putting all his efforts in his preparation for the Final."
