Akiem Hicks avoids suspension after pushing a game official in the Bears' Week 4 win

The NFL determined it will not suspend Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks for pushing a game official in Sunday's win over the Buccaneers, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

Hicks was ejected in the second quarter for pushing down judge Mike Carr after Carr broke up a skirmish between Hicks and Bucs left guard Ali Marpet. Hicks is still subject to a fine of $33,425 for contacting a game official. He also threw his jersey and shoulders pads into the stands as he exited the field.

The seventh-year veteran has been crucial to the defense's strong start to the season. He has three sacks and two forced fumbles through four games.

WGN first reported Hicks would not be suspended. The Bears are off this week and visit the Dolphins on Oct. 7.
