Akhil Gogoi protests against price rise in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, along with his party workers, staged a massive protest in Guwahati on Friday against the BJP government in the state for its failure to curb steep price hike in fuel, kitchen essentials, LPG, medicines and construction materials in its first year of the second term.

Launching a blistering attack on the state government, Gogoi said, “The BJP government will complete its first year of the second term in the state on May 10. The price hike in everything, from food to medicine, is the gift of the BJP government to the people at the end of the first year of rule.”

He accused the NDA government of not fulfilling the promises it made at the time of the assembly election last year. “Rather, it has burdened the people by increasing the tax on every product,” he added.

He said the purchasing power of the people has gone down. “People cannot even afford to buy medicines to save their lives,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention that a litre of petrol was sold for over Rs 100 while an LPG domestic refill was priced at Rs 1,000. Vegetables sold for Rs 70-Rs 80 on Friday in Guwahati.
