A man has been charged with murder over the fatal stabbing of a 24-year-old in east London.

Akeem Dylon Barnes died in hospital on Sunday, November 24 after being found with stab wounds on a petrol station forecourt in Ilford.

He was discovered with injuries six hours after police had been called to a brawl outside a rave in a derelict garage near Goodmayes station.

His killing was one of five deaths investigated by Scotland Yard in 48 hours over that weekend.

Jean Marc Dable, 24, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday and charged on Sunday evening.

He is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Friends paid tribute to Mr Barnes after his death.

One said: “He was the humblest, sweetest guy you could meet and lots of people loved him. He was a good guy. He didn’t deserve to die, he didn’t do anything wrong. His family has been torn apart.”

Another said: “I’ve known him all my life, he wasn’t in a gang or anything like that, he was a good guy.”

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to be a stab wound.

Anyone with information, video or images that could assist the investigation is asked to call 101 ref 1776/24NOV, tweet @MetCC or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
