Akeal Hosein dismisses Liam Livingstone with fabulous catch as England beat West Indies

Although England completed a dominant six-wicket win over the West Indies in their opening T20 World Cup clash, spinner Akeal Hosein did produce a moment of magic to dismiss Liam Livingstone.

With England needing to chase down a total of just 56 to win, it seemed as though it would be something of a formality.

However, the West Indies showed some fight in the field, picking up four wickets before England eventual reached their target.

And Hosein was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-24 from his four overs and producing two caught and bowled dismissals.

The first one saw him take a smart, low catch to send Jonny Bairstow packing and the second was an absolute stunner.

After deceiving Livingstone, who got a leading edge, Hosein launched himself to the left and took a magnificent one-handed catch.

However, there was some controversy as the third umpire took multiple looks at the catch to try and determine whether the ball had touched the ground after Hosein plucked it out of the air.

Ultimately, the third umpire was unable to determine whether it had definitively hit the ground and he decided against overturning the on-field decision, meaning the wicket stood.

Speaking after the game, West Indies captain Kieron Pollard was full of praise for Hosein, who was a rare bright spot in what was a poor display from the defending champions.

Pollard said: "[He got] an opportunity because of the injury to Fabian Allen. Everything happens for a reason, and Akeal Hosein showed us what he can do."

Reflecting on the result as a whole, Pollard insisted that his side would be ready to bounce back in their next game.

"There are no words to explain it," he said. "It was plain to see, I didn’t think we were good enough.

"Sometimes with these sorts of games you just have to bin them and move on. We need to find our straps – we have not batted well in three games [here and two warm-ups].

"I don’t think any panic will come into the camp. We have to take it on our chests as big men."
