AJMER: After a video went viral showing a woman beating up her son and his friend upon finding that they were drug addicts and stole things, Adarsh Nagar police began a probe into the woman's complaint and arrested the two men on Wednesday.
The duo was produced in a local court, which forwarded them to jail.
The woman, who was seen thrashing the two half-naked youths with flipflops in the July 4 video, had later visited the police station and registered a complaint against the duo for stealing things to buy drugs.
Adarsh Nagar police station SHO Sugan Singh said the incident took place in Badliya village, where the video had gone viral.
"The woman came to the police station and registered a case against her son, Narayan Singh, 25, and his friend, Khayal Singh, 25. She said in her complaint that both men were drug addicts and stole things to buy drugs," he added.
An investigation by police found that the two men were involved in theft in a warehouse situated in Palara village, where iron plates kept for construction of an overbridge were stolen.
The woman, after learning of the theft by her son and his friend, had beaten the duo up and informed the police about the theft.
The warehouse owner also registered a case of theft, saying five tonnes of iron plates were stolen from his warehouse.
Police said they began a probe after the woman lodged a complaint and that they have received no complaint about any beating and the viral video.
