Ajmer: 2 gangs busted, 11 held for theft during Urs

AJMER: The dargah police busted two interstate gangs and arrested 11 accused for mobile theft and recovered 133 mobile handsets worth Rs 40 lakh from them during the yearly Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisty.

There were continuous complaints of mobile, gold chain and purse stealing in the dargah region during Urs. Police had constituted a special team that busted these two gangs.

Ajmer SP Vikas Sharma said that thousands of devotees from India and abroad visited the dargah on the occasion of yearly Urs and there were complaints about stealing. Therefore, a plainclothes team was deputed in the dargah region and CCTV vigilance was increased.

These accused reached Ajmer during the Urs and formed gangs. There were two gangs-one was called Howrah Gang of West Bengal and other was Usmanpura Gang of Delhi. Police seized 133 mobiles from these accused as well as gold chains. The accused were identified as Firoz (42), Sheikh Raju (45) and Mohammad Agsar from Howrah Gang of West Bengal.

Similarly, Akil Ali (26), Shahbad (19) Mohammad Aman (19) and Sheikh (20), all residents of Usmanpur of New Delhi. Police also traced the stolen mobiles to locate the accused in the dargah region.
