Cartoonist Ajit Ninan is no more

Well-known cartoonist Ajit Ninan passed away at his flat in Mysuru early on September 8, 2023.

Confirming the death of Mr. Ninan, Managing Trustee of Indian Institute of Cartoonists, Bengaluru, V.G. Narendra said noted cartoonist died when he was alone in the flat.

Mr. Ninan leaves behind his wife and two daughters. His wife and daughter, who were away in Goa, were on their way to Mysuru via Bengaluru, he said. Mr. Ninan’s another daughter lives in Delhi, is also on the way to Mysuru.

Mr Ninan, whose works have appeared in several well-known publications in the country, was 68. He is best known for the ‘Centrestage’ series in India Today magazine and ‘Ninan’s World’ in Times of India. One of his popular cartoon characters was ‘Detective Moochhwala’ in the children’s magazine Target.

Mr Narendra said the Indian Institute of Cartoonists felicitated Mr Ninan with the Barton Life-time achievement award at Indian Cartoon Gallery in Bengaluru in August 2022.
