Ajax vs Tottenham line-ups: Confirmed team news and starting XIs for Champions League semi-final

Jan Vertonghen is fit for Tottenham's must-win Champions League semi-final second-leg against Ajax tonight.

The Belgian defender was left bloodied and required treatment after a sickening clash of heads with team-mate Toby Alderweireld in last week's 1-0 first-leg defeat in north London.

Vertonghen was initially given the all-clear to return to action, but quickly signalled that he was unable to continue and was retching as he was helped off the field by members of Spurs’ medical staff.

The 32-year-old subsequently visited an independent neurologist before it was confirmed by the club that he did not suffer a concussion and that his sudden development of symptoms and lack of stability standing up were likely caused by a presyncopal episode - a near faint.

Vertonghen missed Saturday's trip to Bournemouth as nine-man Spurs slumped to a late defeat at the Vitality Stadium yet all but secured a top-four Premier League finish thanks to Arsenal and Manchester United both dropping points, with it recommended that the player "undertake a brief period of rehabilitation".

Spurs confirmed on Tuesday the Belgian will have to wear a protective mask in Amsterdam, but starts in defence alongside Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose - though Davinson Sanchez is out injured.

Tottenham will also be boosted by the return of Heung-min Son - who, along with Juan Foyth, will now serve a domestic ban after seeing red on the south coast - against Ajax after he missed the first leg through suspension.

Erik Lamela and Serge Aurier have also returned to training - the Argentine is on the bench, but Aurier remains out.

Harry Kane is still recovering from an ankle ligament injury, while Harry Winks underwent groin surgery last week.

Ajax suffered a late blow with Kasper Dolberg being called up to replace David Neres minutes before kick-off.

Hassane Bande and Carel Eiting are still missing for Ajax, who limited the likes of David Neres and Lasse Schone to bit-part roles in their 4-0 KNVB Cup Final win over Willem II on Sunday with the visit of Spurs in mind.
