Liverpool will face Ajax for just the third time in their history tonight, with both previous clashes having come in December 1966.
Despite Liverpool having designs on regaining their Champions League this season, the view from Ajax is that the Dutch side are under just as much pressure as Jurgen Klopp's men to take something from the match.
On the Allez Les Rouges podcast, special guest Herjan Pullen from the Ajax supporter’s club explained: " In the Dutch league, we only have one team represented in the Champions League so for the Dutch teams, it is very important to qualify [for the knockout stages].
"The television money is very low in the Netherlands. Ajax is the biggest but they only get €10 million a year - compared to the Premier League, for example, that is crazy.
"Ajax are very reliant on income from the sale of tickets but also from international revenues from the Champions League."
One man who was expected to play a big part in Ajax getting something from the game - which, given Liverpool are the favourites to progress from Group D, would represent a significant result - is Brazilian attacker Antony, signed from Sao Paolo during the summer for an initial £13million.
Ajax have a long history of producing and developing exceptional young players and the 20-year-old is being tipped to be the next off their production line. But he is set to miss the match because he is not fit.
Pullen added: "Some of the players [who reached the semi-finals two seasons ago] have been sold but nevertheless, new youth players are stepping up.
"Ajax is very famous for the youth academy and sometimes as Ajax supporters, we expect that we have to take a step back because one of the players is leaving - but then out of the blue a new youth player is taking his chance.
"We signed a new Brazilian right-winger, Antony, and he has been very impressive in his first weeks at the club.
"But during the Champions League games, it is more the team spirit that is the most dangerous part of what Ajax can bring. There are individuals but all together is the only way Ajax can win these games."

Virgil van Dijk will be absent tonight given his long term injury, with Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara also missing out.
Aside from Antony, Ajax are expected to have a pretty much fully fit squad to choose from.
Liverpool face FC Midtjylland next week at Anfield and then travel to Atalanta the week after that. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker was initially expected to miss all of those matches but the Reds are now hopeful he could be back in time for the trip to Italy.
