Ajax winger Dusan Tadic believes his side would have had a better chance of beating Liverpool in the 2019 Champions League final than Tottenham, who knocked the Dutch giants out at the semi-final stage.
Spurs staged a miraculous comeback at the Amsterdam Arena, with Lucas Moura completing a hat-trick in the 96th minute to send the Premier League club through on away goals and into the final in Madrid where they faced Liverpool.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi fired the Reds to a 2-0 win over Spurs at the Santiago Bernabeu and Tadic has implied that Ajax could have made for sterner opposition had they finished the job in the last four.
That Ajax team contained Tadic, Donny van de Beek now of Manchester United plus Juventus' Matthijs De Ligt, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong and Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea.
Ajax take on Liverpool in their opening game of the 2020/21 Champions League in Amsterdam on Wednesday night with the former Southampton forward possessing some knowledge of what to expect, plus regret and what could have happened 18 months ago.
"It would have been nice to play against them in the final," Tadic said when asked if he would liked to have faced Liverpool in the final.
"It is difficult to play against them (but) a larger chance than Tottenham for sure.
"I played against Liverpool too often, it was always difficult. They put on a lot of pressure with fast football, they are a big team but it will be a great game to play."
Spurs open their Europa League campaign this season with the visit of LASK Linz to north London on Thursday.
